The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 3

I’ve been crazy busy over the last few weeks with Masters applications, finale assignments and exam preparation, my exams start next week, but don’t be fooled by my recent neglected.  I have been keeping an eye out for stuff that truly warranted a break from working and now I’ve found one.

The latest trailer for the upcoming Batman finale has been released by Warner Bros and can now been seen online, check it out below.  Since I am currently skiving off studying, I can’t spend as long as I’d like writing about it, but I do want to say a few points that came to mind.

Selina Kyle, Catwoman, seems to be on Batman’s side for a large portion of the movie possibly betraying him; hopefully she’s not just a one-time thief turned pseudo-Robin.  She also fears Bane, which may be a reason to betray Batman.

Bane speaks perfectly clear and not muttered.

There is so much more I’d like to get into, but at the moment I don’t have time so please check it out below and leave a comment to discuss.

New Dark Knight Rises Pictures

The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most anticipated films of 2012 and now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have some new images to keep us interested.

The pictures show a new, upgraded, Batman suit and a small glance at were its stored, the Batcave.  They also give a really good look at bane who is fighting with Batman in one of the pictures.  In another picture Gordon is seen backed against a wall holding a gun, possibly about to experience whatever it is that sends him to the hospital.

The pictures look pretty impressive, but it’ll mean nothing if we can’t understand Bane.  Personally, I never saw a big problem with him, but a lot of people did and numerous comments have been released, from people involved in with film, saying not to worry.  Despite rumours to the contrary, Writer, Jonathan Nolan, has said that they will not have to do voiceovers and that when fans see more they will have no problem understanding him.

What do you think?  Have these pictures got your mind on the plot?  Do you like the new Batman suit?  Are you planning on seeing the movie when it comes out in July?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe/follow and click the like button, but only if you like it don’t lie to me.

The Dark Knight Rises Second Trailer

A second, more detailed, trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has hit the web and, among the positive comments, there are some negatives to be pointed out.  Does this mean that Nolan will fail to top the hugely successful second film?

There is no doubt that the latest Batman film will top the box office when it comes out, but are fans going to be satisfied with this ‘epic’ conclusion?  As a Batman (and Christopher Nolan) fan, I hope so.  However, The Dark Knight was done so well that it’s going to be hard to top and I’m not sure if any of the villains in The Dark Knight Rises will be able to compare to Heath Ledger as The Joker.

Also, some of the things from the trailer were a little, how do I put it, odd.  At one point a football pitch collapses into a big crater, which just seemed a little too Final Destination.  Then there is the random futuristic flying thing.  If I’m completely honest, that just seemed like it was in the wrong movie, like a Michael Bay leftover or something.  I do want to be wrong here, I hope that when seen in proper context these things fit in perfectly with the tone, and the world, of the series.

It’s not all bad; there were things I liked too.  After seeing the trailer I am more confident in Anne Hathaway playing Catwoman.  Though you don’t actually see her as Catwoman, she does have a scene where she warns Bruce Wayne of the impending chaos.  Bane also seems pretty cool and at one point it looks as though he was defeated Wayne and say ‘when Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die’.  So I’m pretty sure both Catwoman and Bane no that Bruce Wayne is Batman, probably after discovering it throughout the film.

This film takes place eight years after its predecessor.  The people of Gotham have recovered from The Joker’s attacks and now the city is relatively peaceful.  There has been no need for Batman, who had become an outlaw after taking the blame for Harvey Dent.  Now Batman must return to prevent Gotham once again falling into the hands of the criminals.

Watch the trailer and let me know what you think?  Do you agree/disagree with the points I’ve made?  Are there other things you did/didn’t like about the trailer?  Overall did you think it was good or bad?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe/follow and click the like button.  If you want news on future reviews and projects follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/AdamODwyer1.

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises Trailer Review

So the rumours were true.
The trailer for Batman: The Dark Knight Rises did play before screenings of the last Harry Potter film and all of the recent rumours, about what would be in that trailer, were true.  Almost half of the trailer was made up of clips from the first two movies and the rest was pretty tame.  Not much was revealed, at least not visually.  However, if you listen to the voiceover and the conversation between Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon, you can get a pretty good idea of what’s happened since The Dark Knight.

At the end of the last Batman film, The Dark Knight, Batman becomes a fugitive, having taken the blame for the death of Harvey Dent.  At some point since then, Wayne has hung up his costume and resigned as Batman, possibly due to being unable to do any good while still branded a villain.  This is an interesting plot twist as in the second movie Rachel wrote that, though Gotham may one day not have to rely on Batman, she was unsure a time would come when Bruce no longer needed him.  This movie flips that around, were Gotham is still in danger, possibly worse than it was before, but Bruce no longer feels he can be a hero.

Compelling plot points aside, the trailer was pretty bare.  Fans did get a small glimpse of Batman fighting Bane.  It isn’t shown for long, but it does look like it’s going to be a fairly hands on fight, by which I mean no gadgets just plain old beating the crap out of each other.  When his happened in the comics it resulted in Batman ending up in a wheelchair, though I doubt that’s how Christopher Nolan will end his Batman series.

The trailer begins with a voiceover from Liam Neeson, who plays Ra’s al Ghul.  Neeson will be returning for a brief cameo in The Dark Knight Rises, having previously appeared in Batman Begins.  Josh Pence will also take on the role, playing Ra’s al Ghul in a scene that takes place thirty years before the events of Batman Begins.  Neeson may not be the only one making a cameo as rumour has it, and remember I said it’s just rumour, that Adam West, star of the hit Batman TV series, will make some kind of appearance, obviously not as Batman.

Despite the short length of the trailer, it seems to have gotten many fans excited.  Personally, I would have liked a little more.  What do you think?  Are you happy with the trailer?  Did it get you excited about the film?  Let me know my voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe and hit the like button.

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises Bane Promo Picture

A lot of movie goers will have seen Bane in the 1997 Joel Schumacher film, Batman and Robin, but way he was portrayed in the movie is far from his original comic book persona.  The bane of the film is a mindless bodyguard for Poison Ivy, in the comics, as well as strength, Bane has a keen mind.  He uses this mind to work independently to fight against Batman.  In the comics he is the only man to ever have ‘broke the bat’ which basically means he put Batman in a wheelchair.  He also once thought that he and Batman, Bruce Wayne, shared the same father, but it turned out he was wrong.

Now why am I telling you any of this?  Bane is going to be one of the villains in the final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.  From what I’ve heard, this version will be much more loyal to the source material than the previous movie was.  Tom Hardy was cast as Bane and I’m pretty confident in Nolan’s casting abilities so I’m sure he’ll be great.  The first promo picture of Bane was released.  It doesn’t really show much, but it does give an idea of the look they’re going for.  Check it out.

Superman: Man of Steel 2012

Is it a bird?  Is it a plane?  No, it’s a British guy in a cape.

Next year Superman will be landing in cinemas once again.  The movie is going to be a complete reboot and will be unrelated to previous Superman films.  The plot is somewhat of a mystery, but, as usual, rumours have been circling the web, some ridiculous.  At this stage all we really know is that a portion takes place in Smallville, probably a big portion as they cast Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent.  A name has not been confirmed, but it is rumoured to be Superman: Man of Steel.

The villain hasn’t even been confirmed yet, though most believe its Zod.  We probably won’t have to wait very long before all the missing pieces are revealed, as the whole film is being rushed to avoid a payout.  The family of the original creator of Superman have won a case to regain some rights to Superman and his origin.  The judge ruled that Warner Bros did not have to pay the family for Superman movies that had already been made, but would have to start production of a new Superman movie by 2011 or the family could sue for loss of earnings.

So far four cast members have been announced.  Henry Cavill will play Superman, making him the first non American to portray the man of steel, Amy Adams was cast as Lois Lane, Diane Lane is Martha Kent and, as mentioned above, Kevin Costner’s Jonathan Kent.  The interesting thing about the casting is that there is almost ten years between each of the actors.  Henry Cavill is 27, Amy Adams is 36, Diane Lane is 46 and Kevin Costner is 56.  Maybe it’s a conspiracy.

Personally, I really like Superman and I’m looking forward to this movie, at least until I have reason not to.  Christopher Nolan is producing the movie and David S. Goyer is writing it.  Nolan became interested when he heard Goyer’s idea, so you know it’s got to be good.  Zack Snyder, director of Watchmen, is directing the film.  It’s beginning to sound like this movies going to be darker than other Superman films.  I just hope they make it serious, because comic book movies usual don’t work well unless they take themselves serious.  The movie will be released some time in December 2012.

What do you think?  What would you like to see happen?  Is the age gap a conspiracy theory?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.

Oscar Nominations

Yesterday was the RAZZIES,  the Golden Raspberry, nominations, but today we have the Oscar nominations, which some would argue are less important, to the world of film, than the RAZZIES.  The Oscars has many categories, but the most important are; best picture, best director, best actor, best actress and best visual effects.

Best Picture
The Kings Speech
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
Inception
True Grit
Black Swan
127 Hours
The Fighter
The Kids Are All Right
Winters Bone

Considering that Toy Story 3 technically shouldn’t even be in this category, because there is a separate category for animated films, I’d say it definitely has a chance of winning.  Although, personally, I would prefer to see Inception get the award.  Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Best Director
Tom Hooper – The Kings Speech
David Fincher – The Social Network
Joel and Ethan Coen – True Grit
Darren Aronofsky – Black Swan
David O. Russell – The Fighter

Disappointing to see that Christopher Nolan did not get nominated, he’s such a great director.  For this category my money is on either David Fincher or Darren Aronofsky.

Best Actor
Colin Firth – The Kings Speech
Jesse Eisenberg – The Social Network
Javier Bardem – Biutiful
Jeff Bridges – True Grit
James Franco – 127 Hours

Colin Firth will probably win, but I’m hoping for Eisenberg.  By doing The Social Network he broke out of being typecast and I love when that happens.  Come on Jack Black break away do something that requires more range.

 Best Actress
Annette Bening – The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman – Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence – Winters Bone
Natalie Portman – Black Swan
Michelle Williams – Blue Valentine

Portman has this in the bag.  Nothing against the other nominees, I’m sure they all did great and it’s an achievement to be nominated, but the girl broke bones to make Black Swan, that’s commitment and it shows.

Although we now know who the nominees are, we won’t know the winners until the actual ceremony which will be on February 27th, the day after the RAZZIES.  Who do you think should win?  Let me know by leaving a comment and voting below.

Batman: Dark Knight Rises Villains Revealed

I know I said that today would be another remake, but that’s going to have to wait until tomorrow because this can’t wait.  The villains for the upcoming Batman sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, have officially been revealed.  Despite rumours, it has been declared that Tom Hardy will not be playing Hugo Strange; instead he will be portraying Bane.  Anne Hathaway has also been cast in the film, as Catwoman.   This news was a bit of a shock to people following the speculation as Nolan had said he was choosing villains that had not previously appeared in Batman movies and both Bane and Catwoman have.

For those of you that don’t know, Bane is a Batman comic villain, who was raised in prison.  There he learned many lessons, worked on his body, becoming really strong, and read every book he could get his hands on.  He appeared in the movie Batman and Robin, played by Robert Swenson.  In the movie he was shown as a mindless henchman opposed to super smart.  Catwoman, original known as The Cat, is a burglar that has, on many occasions, stolen Batman’s heart (cheesy but effective).  She has been played by numerous actresses over the years and even has her own comic series.  She’s the most popular female character in the Batman universe.

I can’t wait to see Nolan’s take on these characters, but I’ll have to wait awhile.  The movie is set to be released on the 20th of July 2012, which, if I have my way, will be rainy with atmosphere setting lightning.

Batman:The Dark Knight Rises Villain?

For months now rumours have been circulating about the next instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series.  The most recent of these rumours is that the third film in franchise, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, is that it will be based on the graphic novel Batman: Prey.  This idea isn’t unrealistic as both of Nolan’s previous Batman movies have been based on graphic novels.

If the rumours are true then that means Hugo Strange will be the villain of the movie.  Fans are also speculating that Tom Hardy has been cast to play Hugo Strange.  This is, at this stage, all just rumours, but the story of Batman: Prey would fit right in to the dark world Nolan has created.  In Prey Hugo Strange is a psychoanalyst that is hired to find out who Batman is.  As he analyses Batman’s behaviour he becomes obsessed and wants to kill Batman and take this place.

Nothings set in stone, but fans seem to be favouring this idea.  As I said earlier, the first two films in the franchise were inspired by graphic novels.  Coincidently, these were graphic novels in the same continuality as Prey.  It’s not cold hard fact, but for now it’s all we’ve got.  Let me know if basing the movie on Prey would make you happy or sad by commenting and voting below.
