Though both the film and book series of Harry Potter are over, the story lives on and not just in the memories and hearts of the fans, Harry’s hitting the web.
Pottermore is a site where fans of the series can go to rediscover the stories as well as read additional information that J.K. Rowling has never revealed before. It will also distribute Harry Potter eBooks and audio books. This will be the first time the series has been, legally, turned into eBooks. To a Potter fan the website is very exciting, but it won’t be officially launched until October. However, each day for seven days, five of which have already past, a clue has been put on the site. The people who solve the clue will be able to go to a different page to search for the ‘magic quill’. If they find this, they will be one of the lucky few that get to enter early and help shape the site.
Every weekday I wake up at half eight in the morning to walk my dog, but today the first thing I did was turn on the computer and check Pottermore. The clue had not been posted yet. I only learned how to try gain access to Pottermore last night, after the clue had already been and gone, so this was my first real try at getting in. As I got ready to leave, I refreshed the page many times, but still no clue. I returned from my walk, which takes about an hour, and there was still nothing. Through some quick googling, I found out that a blog had given the exact time the clue would go up on day 3, which was two days ago. As the day went by, it was announced that, in my time zone, the clue would be posted at some point between half four pm and eight pm. I didn’t trust it so I continued to refresh the page, basically every few seconds, until finally, at around six o’clock, the clue pops up.
‘What is the house number of the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, then multiply you answer by 21’, I almost had a heart attack when I realised the clue had appeared. Knowing that, since it was day five, the clue would be related to the Order of the Phoenix, I had the book at hand. However, I didn’t need it as that was actually one of the questioned at suspected and even said to my friend. Once I had the answer calculated, I struggled with my dad’s iPad trying to get the URL in, but it didn’t seem to want to work. My friend, seeing my frustration, used her iPhone to go to the URL. She handed me the phone which I end discarded as the iPad finally worked. I was brought to a page to search for the quill which was in such an obvious play that I thought it was just an example of what to look out for, but I clicked it and it said I had successfully found the quill. Also my friend, using the iPhone, which I’d so mindlessly dropped on the bed, also found the quill.
We were given usernames and a few hours later we both received e-mails to complete the process. Now my friend, Amy, and I have joined the ranks of people who get to see Pottermore before it officially opens. If you are trying to solve to gain access I wish you luck. Just keep on refreshing. In completely unrelated news, Amy got accepted to DCU today and is probably going to kill me for putting this in.
What do you think? Will Amy be popular among her new class? Is DCU lucky to have her? Was getting into Pottermore a bigger achievement than DCU? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.
One muska two muska three musketeers.
Originally a series of books, The Three Musketeers has since been made into a film over twenty times. The author of the original books, Alexandre Dumas, drew inspiration from an earlier book called Mémoires de Monsieur d’Artagnan. In this book d’Artagnan first meets the king’s musketeers; Athos Porthos and Aramis. Also present in the book is Milady de Winter, the antagonist of the first Musketeers book. However, her background was changed significantly.
Alexandre Dumas’s book, The Three Musketeers, was originally serialised, in France, between March on July 1844 under the name Les Trois Mousquetaires. The plot follows d’Artagnan who travels to Paris to join the musketeers. When he is arrested along with the three musketeers they join forces to escape. D’Artagnan falls in love with a woman called Constance and encounters Athos ex-wife Milady de Winter, who has been paid to kill the Duke of Buckingham who is having an affair with the Queen of France. The musketeers, and d’Artagnan, must then defeat Milady before it’s too late.
On the 14th of October the latest Three Musketeers film will arrive at cinemas in stunning, and pointless, 3D. The basic elements of the book are there, by which I mean the characters and the role that the characters play, but the plot is not exactly the same. Normally things like that bother me, but with this being the twenty somethingth Musketeers movie, I think changes may just be a good thing. Then again, a loyal fan may want to see the classic tale retold in 3D. In this version, d’Artagnan joins forces with the three musketeers, who were famous but are currently down on their luck, to stop Milady and her employer from taking over France and starting a war. As I said, it’s not the exact same plot, but it does have a lot of similar plot points.
The three musketeers will be played by Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans. Logan Lerman plays d’Artagnan and Milla Jovovich portrays Milady de Winter. Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich’s Husband, is directing the film and congratulations to them for finally making a movie that their daughter can watch, but probably won’t want to.
Though it does not follow the exact plot of the book, the movie looks good. It mixes action with comedy, but in a way that keeps the tone fairly serious. It has a great range of actors and then Orlando Bloom for some reason. The delivery of the lines is also great, it’s not always easy especially with one liners, but they appear to have done it with neatly. Like most movie goers, I can’t see the point in having the 3D, but it is still the trend in Hollywood so we’ll just have to put up with the goofy glasses. All things considered, this movie may be entertaining for an action/adventure fan, or for someone who is familiar with the source material, but if you don’t fit those categories you probably should give it a miss.

Today US president, Barrack Obama, visited the homeland of his great great great grandfather, Ireland. Obama descends from one of the many people who had to leave Ireland all those years ago due to the famine. His ancestors were from Moneygall in Offaly.
This is Irelands second political visit in a row, as Queen Elizabeth just left the other day. Her visit was historically important to Ireland as it was the first time a Royal has visited since Ireland gained independence. The Queen talked in The Garden of Remembrance and apologised for the lives that were lost in the battle for freedom. There was a small riot, but the majority of people seemed to have no problem with her visit and this really is the closing of a chapter in Irish history and I’m glad I was alive to see it.
Though not as historically important, Obama’s visit was still a welcomed event. In fact, he got a bigger crowd. Sadly, in true Irish fashion, he was subjected to torture, by which I mean Jedward played for him. I think Obama really enjoyed himself, he even tried Guinness. As a treat, to show how happy Ireland is to have had him, I’ve made a picture of what Obama would look like had his great great great grandfather not left Ireland.
Handsome devil isn’t he. Well he does have the good looks of the Irish. Normally I really don’t like the way every American claims to be Irish, especially when they’ve never set foot here, but after hearing the speech about being united and all that I’m going to be more forgiving of it in the future. We Irish are great after all. Obama’s now over meeting the Queen, he’ll probably get stuck there by, yet another, ash cloud, so America may have to wait awhile before they are reunited with their president.
What do you think? Did you like Obama’s visit? Are you glad the Queen came over? Are you just a little bit Irish (go on I’ll be nice)? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.
Was the moon landing faked? Who cares, all I know is that a spaceship from Cybertron was discovered on the moon way back on the first moon trip to the moon and the US government have kept this a secret, even from the Autobots. Thank you Obama.
Just a few days ago, a new trailer for the third Transformers movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, was released. It gives a lot more detail than past trailers and I have to say, despite earlier hesitation, I didn’t hate it. It looks like it’s going to be an action packed adventure from start to finish, which is surprising considering how bad number two did.
By know you probably know that Megan Fox is not longer part of the franchise, unfortunately Shia LaBeouf still is. Was Fox’s absents felt in the trailer? Nope they replaced her with some blonde girl. The blonde girl, also known as Rosie Huntington-Whitley, plays Carly, a character that is actually from the 1984 Transformers animated series. Finally one of the shows human characters has made it into the movies. The actress playing her has no prior acting experience though so it could go either way.
The plot explores the final battle between Autobots and Deceptacons. Each group is trying to get their hands on the ship that the humans found on the moon many years before. The secrets that the ship holds may well decide the winner of the war. I have mixed feelings about the plot. It just feels like they always have to go back and discover secrets. Didn’t the Transformers ever actually live on Cybertron? Shouldn’t they know some of this stuff already?
A real tragedy occurred while they were filming. An extra suffered from permanent brain damage when a stunt, that she wasn’t even part of, went wrong. A cable broke and came through the front of the car she was in, hitting her in the head and cracking her skull. She is paralyzed on one half of her body and her left eye had to be stitched closed. Paramount promised to pay for the medical expensive and her family is suing for seven counts of negligence. The extra’s name is Gabriela Cedillo and she is 24 years old. I legitimately hope that she wins the lawsuit.
Another accident happened on the set, this one involving a police officer who clearly was out sick the day they announced that some streets would be closed for filming. The car that plays Bumblebee was crossing an intersection when a police car came from a different direction. Unable to stop in time Bumblebee crashed into the side of the cop car. The officer was not supposed to be there, but at least no one was injured.
What do you think? Is this film cursed? Are you glad to see a human from the animated series appear in the film? Do you miss Megan Fox? Will this series be able to recover after the disappointing, perhaps racist, second film? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below. Also don’t forget to vote.
A few months ago, Criminal Minds fans were devastated by the sudden departure of AJ Cook who played JJ, Jenifer Jareau, one of the primary female characters on the show. Cook was let go in an attempt to prevent the show from becoming stale. However, reactions were extremely negative, as JJ is a fan favourite. After hearing that over 60,000 people had signed an online petition to bring her back, the studio rehired Cook, who said she was hurt after being let go but found the fan reaction very comforting.
Cook wasn’t the only cast member to be pushed off the show, Paget Brewster, who plays Emily Prentiss, was also removed from the show. However, she was given the option to stay on as a recurring character rather than a series regular. Her final episode was ‘Lauren’ which still hasn’t aired in some countries, including mine, so I won’t spoil it.
JJ will be returning as a series regular at the start of next season, but she says that both her and her character have changed due to the experience of leaving. Being kicked off the show was a ‘wakeup call’ to just how harsh the entertainment industry can be. The ‘new JJ’ will be more serious and mature but don’t worry ‘she still has heart’.
Brewster has also been offered the chance to return, whether it’s as a series regular or not isn’t clear. After leaving the show, she did a pilot for a different show. If the show doesn’t get picked up she may return, but if it does chances are Prentiss has left the building.
Are you happy that JJ is returning? Do you want Prentiss to come back? Is this the end for Rachel Nichols character, Ashley Seaver? What do you think? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below. Also don’t forget to subscribe.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been six months since I start blogging. I’m really enjoying it and I hope that you’re enjoying reading it. To honour my six month anniversary of posting everyday I’ll be talking about my experience writing a blog.
My first post was about Paranormal Activity 2, I wrote it straight after I came home from seeing it in the cinema. I was babysitting my nephew, so it took a while to write the post, but I was glad that I had because it set my whole blogging career in motion. From then on I wrote every day. It was so easy at first, everything was fresh and there was so much to write about. As time went on I realised that sometimes I would really have to work hard to get myself to write. There’s always something to write about if you’re willing to look hard enough.
I have lazy days and there are days when I want to write about other topics, that’s why I added the random section. For a while it did become a crutch, but as I got used to researching and writing a piece every day, I was able to reduce the amount of random posts. Once I’d done that, the blog began to get more hits. That’s not to say the random posts didn’t get views, they did.
If you write a blog the hardest thing to do is find the time to write it. At one stage, I was posting all my articles at two in the morning (I don’t need much sleep). It was only when someone told me that the quality of these posts was not as good as the ones written later in the day that I stopped and began writing in the evening instead.
Another tip I’d give is to only post stuff that you wouldn’t mind your worst enemy reading. If you’re like me you won’t really mind people joking about what you write, but some people genuinely don’t like that. Just make sure you don’t post anything you don’t want getting back to you. I had a bad experience with the song I wrote for Near fm. I wrote the song for an assignment in college. We all had to do a group presentation and I thought it’d be fun if my group sang. One of the members asked me to put the song on my blog so he could read it, I posted it and he liked it. In the end the group wouldn’t sing it, but someone (Robbie) told everyone it was on my blog and it was read out as part of our presentation. I would have preferred all of us making fools of ourselves together, but I got top marks so I don’t care.
As well as my six month anniversary (blogiversary), I also broke 10,000 hits today. I didn’t ever expect to get so many hits. I want to thank everyone who reads this blog, seeing the number of views makes me so happy. It feels great to have my work read, so thank you all. Well we’ve reached the end of this anniversary post, but tomorrow, in honour of my first post, I’ll be writing about Paranormal Activity 3, so be sure to check that out.
Hope you enjoyed this post, I’ve struggle through so many technical difficulties to get it up but apparently it’s Matt’s fault whoever that is. Don’t forget to leave a comment below.
Glee may be the gayest show out there, yet it has millions of fans, both men and women, straight and gay. Pop music and attractive teens, some of which are approaching 30, seems to be the key to success. Although their success is undeniable, many fans abandoned the show in its second season. In an attempt to spice things up Glee will be doing original songs.
In episode 16, titled Original Song, of season two, fan’s will hear at least two original pieces of music. One will be a group performance, the other will be sang by Lea Michele aka Rachel Barry. The group song is said to be up-tempo and will feature Cory Monteith and Lea Michele (Finn and Rachel) on the lead vocals. This song is called Loser Like Me and the name Rachel’s solo song is Get It Right.
The show will not be completely moving away from covering other people’s songs, that would cost them the rest of their fans, but depending on how well this experiment goes we may be hearing more original songs from Glee. Do you think that’s a good thing?

Two dancers one role, one has passion the other has talent. Black Swan is the story of two ballet dancers competing to play the lead role in Swan Lake, which is a duel role, the white swan and her twin sister the black swan. Nina (Natalie Portman) is more suited to play the part of the white swan, while Lily (Mila Kunis) has the personality to portray the black swan. Nina wins the roles, but slower loses her mind and uncovers a dark side within herself.
When I first heard of this movie, a few months ago, I wasn’t excited about it. At the time I didn’t know much about the story and the more I learn the more interested I get. Imagine being haunted by someone, always having an understudy hoping to take your place. The story is similar to old legends about doppelgangers; these stories usually centre around an evil double.
Black Swan is a psychological thriller. The story is Nina’s transformation from the white swan to the black swan. The acting looks amazing, Portman has even been nominated for her third golden globe based on her performance in the film. Kunis was also nominated for a golden globe award and she received a Screen Actors Guild Award. Judging by that it’s safe to say the movie isn’t lacking in talent, but will it live up to expectations. Unfortunately we won’t find out until the 21st which is twelve days away.
Thanks for reading, don’t forget to leave a comment.
