American Sniper is based on the autobiography of the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. The story follows Kyle as he serves four tours in Iraq.
Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Ozborn in Marc Webb’s upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-man.
Capcom have revealed a lot more information about some of their upcoming titles at this year’s Captivate. Amongst the games shown was Resident Evil 6, which has been given a new, much sooner, release date.
The sixth, numbered, game in the Resident Evil franchise will now hit shelves on the 2nd of October, over a month earlier than it was previously expected to arrive. This news comes at the end of a very informative, action packed trailer that reveals that, though it definitely is Sherry and not Ashley that appears alongside the mysterious mercenary, I was right about who Chris was referring to in the previous trailer. That’s right, it’s Ada Wong.
Ada last appeared in Resident Evil 4 and goes back as far as the second game. She and Leon share a complicated story, which may be part of the reason why he defends her in the trailer, even going as far as pointing his gun at Chris, despite the fact that she so obviously has some major involvement in the chaos that is going on all around the world. Ada also reveals the identity of the mercenary character and we were all wrong. He is not HUNK or Alex Wesker, he is Jake Muller the son of Albert Wesker. Don’t feel too bad though, Jake didn’t see it coming either. Due to his genetic relation to Wesker, his blood is important, which is why Ada is hunting him down and Sherry is, I’m going to say, protecting him. She seems to just constantly get hit by things so she probably isn’t that good a protector.
Other details revealed were that players would be able to choose a campaign and play it through to completion; this means that you can play each team’s story from start to finish without changing to another part of the way through. However, the stories are not all separate from each other and there will be overlapping. In fact, the characters will come across each other a number of times in the location that is common to them all, China. Eventually each set of partners will make their way to China were they will face off with the new virus on the block, the C-virus, and the people responsible for its release.
The C-virus is similar to its predecessors, it turns people into zombies, real zombies, but as with previous viruses, G and T, it causes the zombies to behave a little differently. When infected by the C-virus, zombies can enjoy the freedom to run, jump and even occasionally hold weapons. Infection of the C-virus can be caused by a disgusting puss filled zombie that sprays a mist of the virus out of its pores. The effect appears to be nearly instantaneous. Breathing in this mist is a sure fire way to become a running, jumping, occasional weapon holding zombie. It will be interesting to see how this infectious enemy is incorporated into the game, though it won’t be the first time zombies have been able to infect players.
According to Capcom, Chris will not be the same fun loving guy he was in previous Resident Evil instalments; his personality has changed as a result of him going through some personal tragedy six months before the main events of the game. This is why his part of the game opens up six months before the main events of the game. From what we’ve seen so far, it’s a fair guess that the burning, melting and mutating of most of his team, at the hands of none other than Ada Wong, is probably the cause for his transformation, but nothing solid has been announced regarding this. That alone is definitely reason enough for him to think that Ada is behind the whole outbreak, but how plausible is his theory?
So far in the series, Ada has always been working for others. It’s hard to believe that she is the mastermind causing all of the destruction. IGN pointed out some mysterious scenes that appear in rapid succession that they found while slowing down the trailer. In some of these scenes an unknown man in a suit is shown, possibly he is the cause of all this devastation. He may even be Alex Wesker, the Wesker ‘family’ definitely plays a part in the game so it’s possible. Then again, it could be Ada’s fault; after all we don’t really know if she is Ada.
Despite looking like Ada and sounding like Ada, Capcom have refused to confirm whether or not the woman shown in the trailer is actually Ada Wong. Though they did once say that Ada would play a part in the game so it is most likely her, fans have still begun speculating that the character is a twin or clone of Ada who is trying to frame her. Sounds pretty crazy, but there is a method to their supposed madness, by which I mean a list that, according to them, was leaked a few months back containing the names of characters in the game. Ada is on the list, but so is the name Carla Radames and in brackets beside it is ‘Ada’s clone’. Having not previously heard of the list, I naturally have a hard time believing it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. However, I do feel that a bigger deal would have been made out of such a list as it also contains the name Sherry Birkins and Jake Muller, plus it reveals Jake is Wesker’s son. For me at least, pending further information, the list is a hoax.
Now back to what we do know. We know that each of the three partners have their own separate story, each focusing on a different style of gameplay, ranging from gothic survival horror to all out action. Leon and Helena Harper must survive the outbreak in Tall Oaks only to fake their deaths after being blamed for the murder of ‘Present Evil’, the zombie U.S. president. Chris and his, sniper wielding, partner Piers Nivans are put in an action packed army style war against the terrorist. Finally, Sherry and Jake are being hunted by a massive B.O.W., Bio-Organic Weapon, who is intent on capturing Jake on behalf of, for now let’s just say, Ada Wong.
With three full campaigns it’s really hard not to be excited about this game; it’s by far the biggest and most elaborate Resident Evil game to date. It’s so big that there have been some rumours floating about that this was Capcom’s way of wrapping up the series, but fear not because, in an interview, people involve in the game have stated that the reason for Jake’s character was to start bringing in younger people to take over as the main cast were getting on in years. With Jake, Piers and Sherry all filled with enough youth for another six Resident Evil games, I think the series is pretty safe for the moment.
The game also includes a mercenary’s mode, which this time does not have to be unlocked and is available from the start of the game. Other mini games are expected to be announce in the coming months, hopefully at least one not involve running around looking for extra time. How cool would it be if there was a survival mode were the clock actually ticked up timing how long you could fight off the hordes or zombies and B.O.W.s? That’s my dream anyway, but even if it doesn’t happen I’ll be fine because there seems to be something in the game for everybody. If you, like me, are seriously looking forward to the latest Resident Evil adventure, then you’ll be glad to know that a playable demo has been announced. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come out until September and will only be available for people who buy a copy of Dragons Dogma. Xbox 360 players will get the demo 60 days before PS3 users, but both still need to purchase the game to download the demo, which doesn’t seem fair to people who weren’t planning on buying Dragons Dogma but that’s just how it’s going to be this time around.
It would be nice to see the new controls, which include being able to use melee attacks, shoot and walk and even lie down on your back and shoot. Plus, it would be a good chance to check out the new AI, but is it worth buying an entire game? Honestly, if you weren’t already planning on buying Dragons Dogma would you buy it for the demo? Maybe if I had more money I’d consider it. Speaking of wealthy fans, for those Resident Evil fans that are lucky enough to have grave deep pockets, a collector’s edition of Resident Evil 6, containing a replica of Leon’s leather jacket, will be available costing over a thousand dollars. Personally, I tend to avoid collector’s editions that cost more than ten euro more than the regular addition and, since I’m hoping the regular edition of Resident Evil 6 doesn’t go anywhere near a thousand euro, dollar or whatever, I’ll be giving this collector’s edition a miss.
There are still several months to go before this game comes anywhere near a shelf, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get crazy hyped up on sugar, annoyingly talk about it to people who don’t care and come up with wild theories about every detail of the game. Honestly, I think that the build-up to a release date and all the speculation is really fun and if you think the same please leave a comment below and let me know what you think of the game and all the new details. The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most anticipated films of 2012 and now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have some new images to keep us interested.
The pictures show a new, upgraded, Batman suit and a small glance at were its stored, the Batcave. They also give a really good look at bane who is fighting with Batman in one of the pictures. In another picture Gordon is seen backed against a wall holding a gun, possibly about to experience whatever it is that sends him to the hospital.
The pictures look pretty impressive, but it’ll mean nothing if we can’t understand Bane. Personally, I never saw a big problem with him, but a lot of people did and numerous comments have been released, from people involved in with film, saying not to worry. Despite rumours to the contrary, Writer, Jonathan Nolan, has said that they will not have to do voiceovers and that when fans see more they will have no problem understanding him.
What do you think? Have these pictures got your mind on the plot? Do you like the new Batman suit? Are you planning on seeing the movie when it comes out in July? Good and bad news about the next Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Retribution. Millia Jovovich, aka Alice, announced on twitter that the next film will feature Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong and Barry Burton. The bad news is that she also said that Chris and Claire Redfield and K-Mart will not be in the movie. Their absence will be explained as them being captured by Umbrella, this makes two times that’s happened to K-Mart and one and a half for Claire, who narrowly escaped the first time but not before being placed under Umbrella control.
The plot will follow Alice, along with Leon, Ada and Barry, as they try to find Claire and the others. Though I’m guessing that since the actors aren’t going to appear in the film, they aren’t successfully located thus leaving it open for yet another sequel, which doesn’t bother me in the slightly. Also set to appear in the film is Boris Kodjoe, who will be reprising his role as Luther West (possible love interest for Alice).
So far no actors have been announced to play Leon, Ada or Barry. However, Jovovich did say that Jensen Ackles, who was previously approached about the role, is filming Supernatural and will not be playing Leon. Sienna Guillory will return to play Jill, this time for more than ten seconds. In fact, Jovovich said that Alice and Jill will have a huge fight scene, which should be fun. Shaun Roberts will also make a reappearance as Albert Wesker, hopefully this time he won’t die a million times. We’ll have to wait a year to find out though as the film isn’t scheduled for release until the 14th of September 2012, but I’m sure we’ll have some casting news soon as shooting begins in October.
What do you think about this news? Who would you cast as Ada, Leon or Barry? Do you secretly long to be in a post-apocalyptic zombie infested world? If not, why not? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below. Also don’t forget to subscribe and click the like button.
A lot of movie goers will have seen Bane in the 1997 Joel Schumacher film, Batman and Robin, but way he was portrayed in the movie is far from his original comic book persona. The bane of the film is a mindless bodyguard for Poison Ivy, in the comics, as well as strength, Bane has a keen mind. He uses this mind to work independently to fight against Batman. In the comics he is the only man to ever have ‘broke the bat’ which basically means he put Batman in a wheelchair. He also once thought that he and Batman, Bruce Wayne, shared the same father, but it turned out he was wrong.
Now why am I telling you any of this? Bane is going to be one of the villains in the final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. From what I’ve heard, this version will be much more loyal to the source material than the previous movie was. Tom Hardy was cast as Bane and I’m pretty confident in Nolan’s casting abilities so I’m sure he’ll be great. The first promo picture of Bane was released. It doesn’t really show much, but it does give an idea of the look they’re going for. Check it out.

Marvel’s latest pre-avengers film hit cinemas recently. Was it all just a mindless action flick or does it also have a good plot?
The movie takes place in three worlds; Asgard (Thor’s world), Jotunheim (a land populated by ice giants) and Earth (the place where you’re computer currently is). Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is banished to |Earth after he leads his friends into battle with the ice giants, thus breaking the peace. Thor lands on Earth only to be run over by scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her research team. Knowing that she’s onto something, S.H.I.E.L.D agents confiscate Jane’s research. They also seal off the area around Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, which you may remember from an after the credits scene of Iron Man 2. Back in Asgard Thor’s father Odin becomes sick and falls into a coma and Thor’s brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) takes over, with a confusing plan that doesn’t make all that much sense.
The graphics were great, especially the weather effects. There are plenty of explosions to satisfy action fans. I liked how a large amount of time was given to show how Thor got banished, but after the movie was over I couldn’t help but think that time could have been better spent. The actors were great. Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth were excellently cast and the two have so much chemistry together. Ultimately, the audience is left dissatisfied at the end. I went with two other people and they both agreed that the end was disappointing. This disappointment was increased when I told them the news that Portman would not be appearing in The Avengers movie.
The movie differs from the original comic series. Portman’s character, Jane Foster, has been given a modernised role. In the comics she is a nurse, which made sense because Thor was trapped in the body or a doctor named Donald Blake. In the movie Thor gets to keep his own identity when he arrives on Earth. I think this decision really paid off as much of the humour comes from his lack of knowledge of Earth customs. The name Donald Blake is actually used in the movie briefly so keep an ear out.
While the ending wasn’t exactly fulfilling, the rest of the journey was exciting and full of action. Some of the plot was hard to follow; it kind of felt like it was rushed or just not thought through enough. The actors have been signed on to reprise their roles in two more Thor films, which will hopefully be made. I’m not entirely sure how the ending will fight in with the Avengers film, but if they can find a way to bring Captain America into it, despite that fact that he should be an old man in the time period the movie is based in, I’m sure they’ll fit Thor in too. Just a note, there is a scene after the credits, I missed it and if you do too you can read about it online.

Capcom has released a new trailer for the upcoming 3DS game, Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D. This trailer shows a lot more action than the first one and announces some new features.
The game is not like other Resident Evil games, it has no story. The only purpose of this game is killing and surviving. The idea comes from the Mercenaries mini-game that is unlocked after completing the 4th and 5th Resident Evil games. The aim of the mini-game is to kill as many ‘zombies’ as you can before the time runs out. Mercenaries was well received by fans and now it’s time for it to get its own game.
The game mainly uses the levels from the Mercenaries mini-game. However, new features have been added to make the game more fast paced. These include; being able to walk and shoot and being able to change weapons and use items with one touch. The game makes use of the bottom touch screen, allowing players to heal and use other items by pressing the screen.
Players will also be able to upgrade their characters ‘skills’, for example; how resistant they are to instant kill attacks. So far the playable characters are; Chris Redfield, Hunk, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, Jack Krauser and Claire Redfield. It is unclear whether or not more will be introduced.
The game will hit shelves sometime this summer; an exact date has yet to be released. The game features online and offline modes, a tutorial mode and contains a playable demo for Resident Evil: Revelations.
What do you think? Is this game just a waste of time? Does 3D make everything better? Which are you more excited about Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D or Resident Evil: Revelations? Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below. Check out the trailer and don’t forget to subscribe.
Titan Comics are releasing a comic book series based on the hit US TV show Family Guy. The comics will feature characters from the show, including the Griffin Family, Quagmire, Joe and even Cleveland. The return of Cleveland indicates that it will not be canon with the shows, though it will follow a similar structure.
American’s can expect to see the first issue of this comic on the 27th of July, but non-American’s will have to wait a bit longer. How much longer is, at this moment, unclear, but Titan Comics is a big multinational company that makes tie in movie and TV comics, so it shouldn’t be too long before they have the comic on shelves worldwide.
This is not the first Family Guy comic series, in 2006 a three issue miniseries, 100 Ways to Kill Lois, was released. The comic matched the style of the show perfectly, which includes the use of cut away sequences. Family Guy can translate extremely well to comics, as proven by 100 Ways to Kill Lois. Let’s just hope that this one can also maintain the good aspects of the show, while offering some fresh storylines.
The comic will be drawn by, comic book artists, SL Gallant and Anthony Williams. No story writers have been announced yet.
What do you think? Are you excited about the comic? Did you like the previous Family Guy comics? Do you like the show?
