Screenshots from the upcoming South Park RPG have been released and show a remarkable resemblance to the TV series.
Though not the first South Park game that’s been made, this one is by far the most noteworthy, including another that isn’t even out yet. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park, approached, game developing company, Obsidian Entertainment, who have previously made games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege III, to create the RPG. Stone and Parker, having been criticised for making previous game characters 3D, specified that they wanted to maintain the look of the show and they’ve succeeded.
Stone and Parker are writing the script as well as doing the voices and overseeing the project, which hopefully means that it will not only look like an episode of South Park but will feel like it too. The main characters from the show, Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman, will all appear in the game, as will a large amount of the townspeople. However, the player will not control any of the pre-existing characters, but will instead play as a new, silent, character that will be fully customisable.
Players must meet and befriend South Park citizens as well as go on a, no doubt crazy, quest with the main characters. To check how you are progressing with the people of South Park your character can go to a Facebook like site on their phone. The site will show them which characters they have made friends with.
Like other RPGs, the game will use a class system, which contains five different classes Fighter, Mage, Thief, Cleric and, a class that Cartman makes up for you, Jew. The Jew class is like a Paladin or Monk who will be able to do more powerful attacks the less health he has. The player will travel as part of a group and the game uses a turn based combat system for battles.
The game will be released on the PS3, the Xbox360 and the PC and is set to hit shelves in the second half of 2012. With Stone and Parker being so heavily involved in the game, having complete control of the story, it’s hard not to get excited by these screenshots, maybe this means that, after a string of games you’ve probably never even heard of, we will finally be getting a South Park game that’s good.

Do you remember that great feeling you got on Christmas when you were a kid? I do and, since the reveal of the great Santa mystery, that feeling has been gone. Personally, Christmas has never been my favourite holiday, but still I can’t help wonder if the lack of Christmas spirit is throw a lack of trying. That’s way this year I’ve invented something called The Christmas Overdose, which is when you overdose on Christmassy things; movies, books, music, traditions, etc. So I thought it’d be fun to bring my writing into the overdose, which is why today I’ve prepared five really bad gift ideas. These are five toys that don’t exist and we’re lucky they don’t. I made the pictures myself so I’m almost positive you won’t see them on shelves this year.
Convertible cars and dream houses don’t pay for themselves. During the day Barbie may be cruising around town with Ken, but at night she works that pole in her very own strip club. Other toys can look, but if they touch Ken will show them the door.
With the overcrowding in Sylvania having a baby is a tough decision, but sometimes it can’t be helped or can it. Since the introduction of the Sylvanian abortion clinic, unwanted pregnancies and overpopulation are things of the past.
Re-enact all your favourite moments for World War II with this new Lego World War II set. Lego Hitler is included.
Will you or your friend manage to get lucky for times in a row? This is a fun two player game that half of the contestants can play again.
If you’re bored of simply drawing a stickman on a page, then why not add some excitement to the game by bringing in this enlightened new element. Risk yours or other people’s lives, if you’re nervous get grandma involved (it’s probably almost lights out for her anyway).
Naturally I discourage anyone from actually trying to make these games. I’ve been a bit worried about offending people, but hopefully I didn’t. Have you ever wanted to be in a big Hollywood blockbuster, but lack the obvious talent that is, most of the time, necessary for the job? Well here’s your chance to be a part of The Dark Knight Rises, no skills needed.
At Comic Con 2010, the audience were asked to chant certain words and sounds as they appeared on the screen. These were then used as the noise of the crowd in the games grid screen in Tron Legacy. The makers of Dark Knight Rises are giving fans the same opportunity, but this time from the comforts of their own home. By going to ujam.com, you can record your voice saying ‘Deh-shay bah-sah-rah mean’ and it will be used, along with thousands of others, in the final film. You can go as fast of slow as you want, they can fix that in editing, and don’t worry about the pronunciation as there is a sample you can listen too.
Now go forth and secure your place Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. In years to come, if you have no greater achievements, you can tell your grandkids all about how you were, technically, in one of the best, by then classic, movies of all time. Though I hope you go on to have some much greater successes than this, it’s still a fun story to pass along and who knows, if this trend catches on, your voice could be in all your favourite movies. Come on Resident Evil.

By now most fans know that Ashton Kutcher is replacing Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men and now we have a poster to prove it.
Let me just start by saying that a poster with three, presumably, naked male actors on it will not draw in the same people that watched the show before Sheen’s departure. The idea was clearly to capitalise on the sex appeal of the new star, which will completely isolate existing fans who are predominantly older males.
Having spoken to many people about Kutcher being cast, I know that there was already doubt as to whether or not he would be able to maintain the same audience as Sheen. However, Kutcher may bring in a different type of audience, a younger generation. Obtaining in a younger audience could be just what the show needs, but the dynamic of the show will change completely, which could very well get rid of the things that made it funny in the first place.

The PSN is now returning to Japan, meaning that it will be officially restored worldwide. So what’s the last thing PlayStation users want to hear? Your console is outdated.
Yes that’s right the PlayStation 4 is on it’s way, or at least that’s what the internet rumours would have you believe. However, Sony has previously stated that they have a 10 year plan for the PS3 making news of a PS4, coming out as early as 2012, a little hard to swallow, though it does sound like it would be a good console.
According to rumours, the new PlayStation will have a built in movement sensor like the Kinect and will be assembled by the same companies that make the PS3, Foxconn and Pegatron Technology. The PS4 will, supposedly, be ready to distribute in 2012, with a minimum of 20 units being shipped that year.
As unlikely as it may sound, Sony does have reason to make a new console, after all the Wii U and Xbox Kinect have brought some great new features to gaming. Sony’s 10 year plan may not be holding up to the advances in technology. For now we can only speculate as to whether or not the rumours are true, but hopefully Sony will release a statement soon.

Lunar eclipses aren’t that rare, at least one happens every year, but the moon isn’t always completely eclipsed. When this happens, it’s because the earth is directly in between the sun and the moon, thus preventing the suns light from reflecting off the moon. This is called totality and it has another cool effect, it causes the moon to appear red after it comes out from the eclipse. The reason for this is that the rays of light, coming from the sun, pass through our atmosphere and the particles in the atmosphere make it look as though the moon is red. Ancient civilisations have feared the red moon believing it was a bad omen, in actual fact the same process, light passing through our atmosphere, is the reason the sky is blue.
In four years there will be another red lunar eclipse, but last night one happened right above Ireland. People all over the country occasionally peaked out their windows indifferently, each one wondering if they would see something amazing. Most were disappointed, briefly, because they couldn’t see anything. The reason for this is that the moon eclipsed while rising so it literally rose into the eclipse. This meant that only people with a clear view of the horizon got to actually see the eclipse.
Living in the city I couldn’t see it, but I did try my best, even going as far as standing looking out the window in my attic. From there I could see people walking outside from time to time, taking a look up, making sure no one saw them stargazing and then walk back inside. It would have been interesting to see it, but remember that the international space station should be visible for the next few weeks so keep an eye out, especially if you’re in the UK or Ireland.

V is a show about aliens, known as The Visitors, who come to Earth claiming that they are peaceful, loving creatures, when in actual fact they are evil reptilian monsters. Some people accept them, but others know the truth and try to fight against them. The battle seemed to be going in the V’s favour, until the brave soldiers of ABC stepped in and sent The Visitors away. Now fans of the series unite and demand that ABC bring back the Vs.
The show stars Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin, Mitchell as an FBI agent/mother and Baccarin as an invading alien queen/mother. The series has a complex and compelling plot as well as good strong characters and plenty of character development. It’s really one my favourite shows at the moment, the only problem is that it got cancelled last month on the 13th of May. This meant that the show was left at a cliffhanger. So that’s where you come in, please sign the online petition to bring the show back. Every signature brings us one step closer to season 3 and if you’re a really big fan you could also try writing a letter and mailing it to ABC at this address; Mr. Stephen McPherson, Chairman, ABC, 500 S. Buena Vista Street, Burbank, CA 91521, RE: V. If you do go down that road make sure you stay polite, being rude isn’t going to help anyone. The petition can be found at this link; http://www.petitiononline.com/julietp1/petition.html.
Though this series may only have two seasons so far, V has been around for a long time. The franchise goes back as far as 1983 when a miniseries, also called V, was aired. The following year there was another miniseries that continued the plot and then there was a TV series that lasted one season, finishing in 1985. The premise of the old V shows and the new one are the same, evil invading aliens who wear human skin to hide the fact that they are reptilian, but the characters and storylines are a lot different. One of the old characters is actually in the new series as the mother of Morena Baccarin’s character. She has the same name as she did in the previous shows and even reminisces about things that do relate back to the original series. That’s actually one of my favourite things about the show, it respects where it came from and it throws that in for fans of the old shows.
It’s not often that a show this unique and intriguing comes along so don’t let it slip away without a fight.

If you’ve been within hearing range of me when the trailer for X-Men: First Class came on, then you’re probably sick of me complaining about it. However, I saw the movie and got in for free. No it wasn’t anything to do with my blog or journalism; it was because my friend works in the cinema. Having seen the movie, my opinion of it has completely changed.
Personally, I hate when movies can’t stay within the continuity of the series they’re in, but X-Men: First Class has proved to be an exception. It contradicts the previous instalments numerous times, even going as far as using the same character in a different time period; yes I’m talking about Emma Frost. I could write a whole post on the errors in the canon of the X-Men movie series, but if I’m honest, when I got into the film, they didn’t bother me as much as I thought they would. In fact, I think the movie was probably one of the best in the franchise.
The first two X-Men movies where directed by Bryan Singer, who left the third one to direct Superman Returns, which was his dream project. Without Singer the series took a nose dive. X-Men 3 was bad and dismissed a lot of the pre-established story, but it was X-Men Origins: Wolverine that completely turned me off the franchise. I insisted I would never see another X-Men move, at least not one in this canon, but who can turn down a free ticket and I’m glad I went.
The film follows Professor X and Magneto back when they were Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. The first scene is a near shot for shot remake of the opening scene in the first X-Men movie. It shows Erik first using his magnetic powers to bend a gate in a concentration camp. It was so similar that I actually did think it was the same scene. Meanwhile, Charles is living in a mansion and one night meets Mystique who becomes his best friend. Though this was an interesting storyline, it contradicts with the original movies where Professor X and Mystique appear to have no emotional investment in each other, good or bad.
It takes a while for Charles and Erik to meet, but even separated they stole the show. It was nice to see a different side to the characters. We get to see young fun Professor X, even hitting on random girls in bars. It was a nice touch and the relationship between the two has been one of the more engaging things about the movie series as a whole. Despite both being on different sides, they have a mutual love and respect for each other and it was really enjoyable to see where that began.
There are a bunch of other mutants in the movie and, unlike X-Men Origins: Wolverine, they all got a fair amount of screen time. One of the things that stood out for me was Beast’s transformation. To avoid giving too much away I’m just going to say that they used what happened in the comics. Also featured in the movie were Havok, Banshee, Riptide, Azazel and many more. It was surprising, and nice, to see that they found a place for each of the mutants to show off and use their powers, especially Banshee, who normally doesn’t get shown in such a cool light. If you’re a major comic fan then you might remember that Havok, aka Alex Summers, is the middle Summers brother. Though obviously the timeline won’t allow that in the movie, Singer did say that Havok and Cyclops are related just in a way that works for the film.
This film is the best thing to happen to the series since X-Men 2. It was refreshing, fun and interesting. Luckily, it has been announced that they want to turn First Class into a series, which means we don’t have to say goodbye to these characters just yet. If you’re going to see the movie and you are familiar with the previous films, there are some things that were thrown in for fans. One of the best is the suits, which were joked about in the first movie. Good luck spotting the rest, which include cameos from two cast members from the previous films. I recommend giving this film a chance, even if you are concerned about the canon.

Normally, when you fire two of your lead actresses and bring in a replacement, two actresses leave the show and a new one comes on. However, things work a little differently over on the set of Criminal Minds.
After firing AJ Cook and Paget Brewster, the producers hired Rachel Nichols as a replacement. Recently, news that Cook would be returning surfaced and it was said that the same would be true for Brewster if the pilot she was working on was not picked up. The pilot wasn’t bought and now it has been confirmed that Brewster will also be coming back, so where does this leave, their replacement, Rachel Nichols. Unfortunately, the actress has been let go, which basically means that they’ve come completely full circle.
Nichols character was introduced shortly after AJ Cook departed, at this time Paget Brewster’s character, Emily Prentiss, was still on the show. Prentiss was given a much bigger send off, her story arc spanning the majority of the season. Fans showed how much they cared for both Cook and Brewster by making a petition that got over 60,000 signatures. It’s doubtful, but perhaps Nichols will also be rehired in the future. For now the new mystery is whether or not Thomas Gibson, Hotch, will be returning next season.
