Death Valley Premieres on MTV

Tonight a new show, called Death Valley, premiered on MTV, though in other countries it began airing last year.

The show is a mockumentary about police officers in a world that is inhabited by an array of supernatural creatures.  A running gag is that the show often parodies the type of things that would appear in traditional cop shows.  However, the addition of monsters has made it, in my eyes, more entertaining than said cop shows.

While not exactly as satisfying as shows like True Blood or Being Human, at least not yet, the show is still an enjoyable way to spend half an hour.  Jokes at the expense of popular monster shows and movies are pretty funny, such as vampires selling sex for blood, which seems to be making fun of True Blood and prostitutes at the same time.

Vampires are not the only monsters being parodied by the show; zombies and werewolves are also present.  It seems as though they took the three most popular monsters, ones that appear in a lot of movies and shows today, and made fun of them.  Though they did manage to explain the whole fast zombie slow zombie thing, which is cool.

The show is told from the perspective of the cops as they struggle to enforce the law in a world filled with supernatural creatures.  The characters are funny, a couple potentially standing out above the rest, but all things considered there was nothing remarkable about the actors performances.  The episode was funny, but not extremely impressive.  Hopefully the series will get better with each passing episode.

What do you think?  Did you enjoy the episode?  Do you like Death Valley?  Would you like to work as a cop in a world that contained monsters?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Don’t forget to follow/subscribe and click the like button if you liked this post.
