Ferris Bueller 2 buy a Honda

Ferris Bueller sequel or clever marketing ploy?

A short clip depicting Matthew Broderick reprising his iconic role, Ferris Bueller, was put on YouTube, with the full ad to be played during the Super Bowl.  Initial reaction was that this was confirming that a sequel was in the works, but now, Jalopnik.com claims, that they have sources that say it is a Honda ad and not a trailer for a sequel.

Whether or not this is true or not has yet to be announced, but it does seem more likely than a sequel, which, writer and director, John Hughes said in the past was not going to happen due to the lack of a good follow up story.  However, he did joke about returning to the series when Broderick was in his 70s and having Ferris bust Cameron out of a retirement home.  Perhaps he decided to do a sequel, though it doesn’t seem likely.

The former seems far more plausible and maybe even better.  If it’s an advert, it will be a funny ad that won’t annoy viewers, for a little while anyway, if it’s a sequel, then it will probably be a train wreck and ultimately ruin the legacy of the original.  Then again, it could be just as good as the first, but what are the odds of that?

What do you think?  Would you like to see a sequel to Ferris Bueller?  Could Ferris Bueller convince you to buy a Honda?  Which do you think it is; trailer or ad?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also click the like button, if you liked this post and don’t forget to follow/subscribe.
