Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to TV

Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to television screens worldwide in her new show Ringer.  The premiere of the pilot got the highest ratings in its timeslot on The CW network in the last three year, but did the show live up to the hype?

The story has been compared to something you’d see in a daytime soap.  Twin sisters, Siobhan and Bridget (both played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), meet up to try fix their relationship.  They go out on a boat, just the two of them, Bridget falls asleep and when she wakes up Siobhan is gone.  Bridget, who is on the run, then takes over Siobhan’s life, but quickly learns that it’s not as perfect as Siobhan pretended it was.

It’s not hard to see the resemblance to a soap opera when you map out the plot like that, but when you’re actually watching it you won’t feel that way.  There are more than enough twists and secrets to keep you occupied from start to finish, including one twist at the end of the episode that will definitely have you tuning in next week.

It’s nice to see Gellar back on TV and she and the rest of the cast do a great job, though it was hard to get over the fact that there really is only one Sarah Michelle Gellar playing both parts.  However, this was a minor issue and once you get invested in the plot you start to forget about it.  So did the show live up to the hype?  Yes, I think it did.  It’s clever, it’s interesting, it’s exciting and it stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, what more could you ask for?
