Free Willy mixes with Jaws

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Jaws met Free Willy and they had some sort of mutant movie baby?  Well wonder know more, because here’s another movie mix.

When a young boy learns that the police are trying to kill a great white shark, he risks everything, including his own life, to free the heartless killing machine.  Truly a heart wrenching story of the crazy stuff kids did in movies in the 90s.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you won’t go in the ocean for weeks.

Just to clear up a bit of confusion this is NOT a real movie it is part of a new thing I’m doing called Movie Mix.  I take two films or TV shows and combine them.

What do you think?  Would you like to see this movie?  Which of the originals is better?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.

Unusual behaviour on the set of Criminal Minds (more firing and rehiring)

Normally, when you fire two of your lead actresses and bring in a replacement, two actresses leave the show and a new one comes on.  However, things work a little differently over on the set of Criminal Minds.

After firing AJ Cook and Paget Brewster, the producers hired Rachel Nichols as a replacement.  Recently, news that Cook would be returning surfaced and it was said that the same would be true for Brewster if the pilot she was working on was not picked up.  The pilot wasn’t bought and now it has been confirmed that Brewster will also be coming back, so where does this leave, their replacement, Rachel Nichols.  Unfortunately, the actress has been let go, which basically means that they’ve come completely full circle.

Nichols character was introduced shortly after AJ Cook departed, at this time Paget Brewster’s character, Emily Prentiss, was still on the show.  Prentiss was given a much bigger send off, her story arc spanning the majority of the season.  Fans showed how much they cared for both Cook and Brewster by making a petition that got over 60,000 signatures.  It’s doubtful, but perhaps Nichols will also be rehired in the future.  For now the new mystery is whether or not Thomas Gibson, Hotch, will be returning next season.

What do you think?  Are you sick of not knowing who will be in the next season of Criminal Minds?  Are you happy Paget Brewster is returning?  Do you feel sad that Rachel Nichols is leaving the show?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

In 2009 Sherlock Holmes proved that he could still draw in a crowd, but will the sequel be able to live up to the first?

Sherlock Holmes is a familiar name to most people, but how many really know him?  Do people still read the books that made him famous or watch the films that bring him to life?  Judging by the praise that Guy Richie’s 2009 adaptation got, it’s safe to say that Holmes’s fan base is as vast as ever.  The movie used elements from various Sherlock Holmes stories, even going as far as bringing in Irene Adler, who is a massive fan favourite despite only appearing in one story (A Scandal in Bohemia).  Adler will return in the sequel, but just to tie up some loose ends.

The sequel takes inspiration from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s story The Final Problem.  It is this tale that introduces the evil Professor Moriarty.  Originally intended to be the final Sherlock Holmes story, Doyle ends it by killing off both Holmes and Moriarty.  Complaints by fans led Doyle to bring Holmes back by revealing that Holmes had defeated Moriarty and faked his own death to prevent Moriarty’s henchmen coming after him.  The plot of the movie will take elements from the story; it will not be an exact translation.  However, which parts they are keeping is still unclear.  They wouldn’t kill Holmes would they?

Mycroft Holmes, brother of the infamous Sherlock, will be played by Stephen Fry.  Mycroft was briefly mentioned in the 2009 film and has been in many of the books.  Mycroft has even better deducing skills than Sherlock, but he lacks the drive and energy to physically go out and solve a case.  His role in the movie will be to assist Sherlock and Watson in outsmarting Moriarty.  Also aiding Sherlock and Watson is a gypsy called Sim, who is played by Noomi Rapace.

This film will show off Holmes ability as a master of disguise.  Sherlock will even go as far as dressing like a woman, which was, Sherlock Holmes star, Robert Downey Jr.’s idea.  This should add to the comic relief that made the first one so entertaining.  The movie is set to hit cinemas, in America, on the 16th of December and on the 25th of December, in Europe.

What do you think?  Are you excited about the sequel?  Should they kill of Holmes?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

Research

The musketeers post took a lot more research than I thought so I wasn’t able to do another post for today.  However I’m not going to accept defeat.  I will aim to have two tomorrow, one in place of this message.

The Three Musketeers

One muska two muska three musketeers.

Originally a series of books, The Three Musketeers has since been made into a film over twenty times.  The author of the original books, Alexandre Dumas, drew inspiration from an earlier book called Mémoires de Monsieur d’Artagnan.  In this book d’Artagnan first meets the king’s musketeers; Athos Porthos and Aramis.  Also present in the book is Milady de Winter, the antagonist of the first Musketeers book.  However, her background was changed significantly.

Alexandre Dumas’s book, The Three Musketeers, was originally serialised, in France, between March on July 1844 under the name Les Trois Mousquetaires.  The plot follows d’Artagnan who travels to Paris to join the musketeers.  When he is arrested along with the three musketeers they join forces to escape.  D’Artagnan falls in love with a woman called Constance and encounters Athos ex-wife Milady de Winter, who has been paid to kill the Duke of Buckingham who is having an affair with the Queen of France.  The musketeers, and d’Artagnan, must then defeat Milady before it’s too late.

On the 14th of October the latest Three Musketeers film will arrive at cinemas in stunning, and pointless, 3D.  The basic elements of the book are there, by which I mean the characters and the role that the characters play, but the plot is not exactly the same.  Normally things like that bother me, but with this being the twenty somethingth Musketeers movie, I think changes may just be a good thing.  Then again, a loyal fan may want to see the classic tale retold in 3D.  In this version, d’Artagnan joins forces with the three musketeers, who were famous but are currently down on their luck, to stop Milady and her employer from taking over France and starting a war.  As I said, it’s not the exact same plot, but it does have a lot of similar plot points.

The three musketeers will be played by Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans.  Logan Lerman plays d’Artagnan and Milla Jovovich portrays Milady de Winter.  Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich’s Husband, is directing the film and congratulations to them for finally making a movie that their daughter can watch, but probably won’t want to.

Though it does not follow the exact plot of the book, the movie looks good.  It mixes action with comedy, but in a way that keeps the tone fairly serious.  It has a great range of actors and then Orlando Bloom for some reason.  The delivery of the lines is also great, it’s not always easy especially with one liners, but they appear to have done it with neatly.  Like most movie goers, I can’t see the point in having the 3D, but it is still the trend in Hollywood so we’ll just have to put up with the goofy glasses.  All things considered, this movie may be entertaining for an action/adventure fan, or for someone who is familiar with the source material, but if you don’t fit those categories you probably should give it a miss.

What do you think?  Is the plot being changed a good thing or a bad thing?  Do you like the cast?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

Horrible Bosses

Do you hate your job?  Is the nine to five getting to be too much?  Are the weekends the highlight of your life?  Well Hollywood is offering a solution; kill your boss.

Horrible bosses is a movie about three mistreated employees, played by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis, who decide that they’ve had enough of their overbearing bosses.  They then launch a plan to murder their bosses, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey.  To do this they enlist the help of a con artist, Jamie Foxx, who gives them tips on how to pull off their plan.

The movie will hit cinemas on the 8th of July in America and on the 22nd of July in the UK and Ireland.  Despite only coming out this year, the first version of the script was purchased by New Line Cinema way back in 2005.  The script was later rewritten, in 2010, before the film went into production.

The trailer was released on the 11th of May.  The movie looks promising, but I can’t help think that any humour would fade where they to actually succeed in killing any of their bosses.  However, judging by the trailer, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.  Of the bosses, Colin Farrell’s character is my favourite.  For this role Farrell is rocking the comb over, which, fortunately, he doesn’t have to do in reality just yet.  His character is the dumbest of the bosses, but he gets some of the better lines.  Jennifer Aniston plays a dentist who is sexually harassing her employee and Kevin Spacey plays the powerful, manipulative boss.

Its makes me glad to be unemployed, although I’m not condoning murdering your boss or anything.  The movie looks really funny and the trailer should be a good indicator of whether or not you’ll like the movie.  It’s a comedy, but, let’s face it, it’s not suitable for kids, though it is tamer than the hangover, it will probably attract the same audience.

What do you think?  Which boss would you prefer?  Have you ever considered killing your boss?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

Space Battleship, Gantz, Movie Release dates and Vampires from Jersey

Rather than give each of these things its own post, I’ve decided that they should be joined together as one post.  It’s not that all three don’t deserve a separate post, it’s just that two of them already have one each and the third is going to have its own, you’ll know why by the end of the post.

There has been a lot of interest in the release date of the live action Gantz movie.  I knew it wouldn’t be long before more details came out, as distributors were fighting over the rights.  I haven’t heard any official announcement, but I did find out that the live action movie will be available on amazon soon.  Amazon has different sites for different countries, it doesn’t has an Irish one get though, but the UK version will stock the DVD from the 3rd of October and the US version will have it from as early as the 30th of August.  It’s unclear whether both DVDs are included or not.

Though it hasn’t gotten as much interest, it’s a movie I’ve personally been waiting for.  Space Battleship Yamato will come to DVD and Blu-ray on the 24th of June.  This news comes from the movies official blog.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t specify if it is a worldwide release.  I’ll be on the lookout for more details so don’t be afraid to leave a comment asking for more information.

The third thing is a solution to all the gaps that my blog acquired back before college ended, that’s right I’m finished for the summer.  All I have to do now is pick which college I head to next year.  Anyway here’s my solution, fake movies.  I recently listened to a radio show were contestants had to mix too movies together to make a different movie.  Inspired by this I will be filling the gaps with movie posters, and small plots, that mix two or more movies, TV shows, games or books together.  Here’s an example.

Snooki Stackhouse is a poof haired girl who enjoys her life of drunken pickle eating in Jersey Shore.  Through the magic of her poof she can read the minds of others, except supernatural creatures like vampires.  It’s the perfect relationship except he has no tan and she’s dying of skin cancer.

What do you think?  Are you happy about the release dates?  Do you think it would work out between Bill (the Vamiation) and Snooki?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.

The Muppets First Trailer Review

It starts with one man forgetting his anniversary and ends with a Muppet adventure.  That’s right I’m talking about the Muppets movie again.  Why?  Because they released a trailer.

The trailer is actually disguised as a melodramatic romance movie and then it’s revealed to be a trailer for The Muppets.  Making the fake trailer was a really clever idea; it kind of taps into some of the fun of the film.  Near the end we do get to see some of the actually footage and it looks impressive.  The tone matches with earlier Muppet movies and that’s really the most important thing.

It’s clear from the trailer that there will be some musical numbers, which isn’t surprising if you’ve ever watched The Muppets before.  The new songs will be written by Flight of the Concords star Bret McKenzie, but some of the classics will also be making an appearance too.  Among these classic songs is the hit Rainbow Connection.

So far I’m impressed by what I’ve seen, not that I was expecting otherwise.  The people working on the project really care about it and it’s great to see that.  It would be a complete shock to me if this film didn’t end up being a hit.

What do you think?  Are you impressed by the trailer?  Did you like how it started with fake footage?  Let me know by voting and commenting below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

Obama and the Queen visit Ireland

Today US president, Barrack Obama, visited the homeland of his great great great grandfather, Ireland.  Obama descends from one of the many people who had to leave Ireland all those years ago due to the famine.  His ancestors were from Moneygall in Offaly.

This is Irelands second political visit in a row, as Queen Elizabeth just left the other day.  Her visit was historically important to Ireland as it was the first time a Royal has visited since Ireland gained independence.  The Queen talked in The Garden of Remembrance and apologised for the lives that were lost in the battle for freedom.  There was a small riot, but the majority of people seemed to have no problem with her visit and this really is the closing of a chapter in Irish history and I’m glad I was alive to see it.

Though not as historically important, Obama’s visit was still a welcomed event.  In fact, he got a bigger crowd.  Sadly, in true Irish fashion, he was subjected to torture, by which I mean Jedward played for him.  I think Obama really enjoyed himself, he even tried Guinness.  As a treat, to show how happy Ireland is to have had him, I’ve made a picture of what Obama would look like had his great great great grandfather not left Ireland.

Handsome devil isn’t he.  Well he does have the good looks of the Irish.  Normally I really don’t like the way every American claims to be Irish, especially when they’ve never set foot here, but after hearing the speech about being united and all that I’m going to be more forgiving of it in the future.  We Irish are great after all.  Obama’s now over meeting the Queen, he’ll probably get stuck there by, yet another, ash cloud, so America may have to wait awhile before they are reunited with their president.

What do you think?  Did you like Obama’s visit?  Are you glad the Queen came over?  Are you just a little bit Irish (go on I’ll be nice)?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.

The Muppets 2011

The big celebration of going over 200 posts is not quite ready.  I underestimated the difficulty of what I was trying to do and now I need to invest 2 euro to fix the problem.  Don’t worry it will be soon, I just need to track something down first.

Anyway, in the spirit of quick recovery, let’s get down to business.  Today I have great news for Muppets fans as a new film is coming out this year.  This will be the first Muppets film in over ten years.  A lot has changed since then and the question has to be asked; Is there room for the Muppets in a world where kids are filled with Bieber fever and computer animation has become so popular?

Personally I don’t think it matters.  Let’s face it; cinemas will be packed even if there isn’t a single child that wants to see the film.  The Muppets have always been something that the whole family can enjoy, age really isn’t a factor.  As long as the movie is done right I have confidence it will do great at the box office.

The plot follows Walter, a puppet, who is the world’s biggest Muppets fan.  With his friends Gary and Mary, played by Jason Segel and Amy Adams respectively, Walter travels to Los Angeles where he finds out that the Muppet theatre is getting torn down by a businessman who wants to drill for oil.  Walter and his friend’s then travel around to reunite the Muppets, who have all went their separate ways in the last decade, and have a telethon to raise the money to save the theatre.

It sounds like they have a very strong plot, by which I mean it sounds like something that would happen in a Muppets movie.  However, times have changed and so has technology.  According to Segel we’ll see the Muppets ‘doing stuff they hadn’t been able to do before’ by this he means that they will be using more advanced puppets.  You may have noticed that on the poster they have legs.

The movie will feature special appearances from many celebrities, but luckily Justin Bieber is not one of them.  In an ironic twist the guy who played the ‘Asian’ in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is (this isn’t random I was talking about him in a post a couple of days ago).  The list of celebrity appearances is so long so I’m just going to name a few.  Jack Black, Mila Kunis, Beth Broderick (Aunt Zelda), Selena Gomez, John Krasinski, Lady Gaga, Ben Stiller and many more.

As of yet there is no trailer, but I’ll post it when it’s released.  It shouldn’t be long now, as the movie is set to come out on the 23rd of November.  Also if you like Toy Story, you’ll be happy to know that a brand new short, featuring the characters from Toy Story, will air before the Muppets movie in cinemas.

What do you think?  Are you excited for the Muppets to return?  Do you think the plot is interesting?  Let me know by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.
