Cinema Versus DVD/Blu-ray

A few months after a movie leaves cinemas it’s released on DVD and Blu-ray.  I’m the type of person that will watch a film in the cinema and buy it, if I liked it, when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray.  However, I’ve heard people say, many times, that some movies are the ‘wait for the DVD’ kind of movie.  My theories always been, if I don’t want to see it in cinema I won’t want to see it on DVD.  Sure I’ll watch it if someone wants me too, I’m open minded, but I’m not going to go out and buy something I didn’t think was worth €7 to begin with.

The argument is that when you have it on DVD you can watch it as many times as you want, but what if you only want to watch it once.  It might suck, or you could be one of those people that won’t sit through the same movie twice in one lifetime.  Now you have this DVD, that you might have paid €15 on, and you’re never going to watch it again.  You may like it, in which case well done, you’re magic 8 ball has done you well.

Some people ‘test drive’ the film online, but quality could be really bad and who wants to watch a movie were the voices might not be in sync.  Call me old fashioned, but is it really that hard to pay the €7 for the cinema ticket?  I love the cinema, I can’t always afford to go (I am a student after all), but I pick out movies that I’m really excited about and go see them.  If it’s as good as I thought it would be, I get the DVD or Blu-ray.  Also, there’s no shame in waiting for the prices to go down, you’ve been patient for months you can last a bit longer.

So the question here is; Watch in cinema or wait for the DVD/Blu-ray?  You decide by voting and leaving a comment below.  Also don’t forget to subscribe.

I usually watch it in the cinema and if I really liked it then buy it on DVD sometimes I watch it online because I cant afford the cinema (student also). Sometimes I buy DVDs of movies I’ve never seen before because I like not knowing what’s gonna happen in it

    • I do that too, buy DVDs I’ve never seen. I don’t usually go by the case though, I usually find out about it (somehow) and then find out a bit about it before I buy it. I don’t mean I’ll find out the end or anything, but I’ll watch the trailer and all.

    • Yeah I’m sort of a freak when it comes to movies, and most things. I’ll watch the same movies over and over. I have DVDs that I don’t like, but one day I’ll just really want to watch it again for some reason. I also love the cinema, I think it kind of makes bad movies better.

      • I think I’m the opposite, I tend to like a movie LESS if I see it in cinemas, haha… being in the dark room with a big screen kinda ups my expectations of everything…
Nowadays I like to buy Blu-rays because of the awesome video and sound quality, and you can watch your fav scenes over and over again, even good scenes in bad movies! 🙂
