Resident Evil: Revelations

Yesterday we talked about Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, but today we’re going to focus on the canon addition to the franchise, Resident Evil: Revelations.

Although it wasn’t given a number, chronologically the events of the game take place between numbers 4 and 5.  Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, the main protagonists of the original Resident Evil, will be central characters of the game.  It is likely that both will be playable characters, but only Jill was available in the demo.  This may be due to the fact that the game is only around 20% complete.

The controls system is the same as the one in The Mercenaries 3D.  Players will be able to walk and shoot at the same time; however this will prevent you from aiming the gun, most likely due to the 3DS only having one analog stick.  When shooting the screen view will become first person, to stop the character blocking enemies from view.  The game is shown on the top screen and players can rotate the camera by touching the bottom screen.

The trailer is a lot to take in and can be confusing, there are some things you may not pick up on the first time you see it.  If you look carefully you’ll notice that the real zombies are back, fans have been awaiting their return for awhile.  Also you may feel nostalgic as you watch, if so it’s because several of the areas look as though they have been brought over from other games in the series.  There are many possible reasons for this.  The trailer would have you believe it’s because the main characters are dead, ‘it doesn’t matter because you’re already…’ the quote is said at the end of the trailer and is cut off before it finishes.  The characters could not actually be dead, because, as stated above, this game is set between Resident Evil 4 and 5 and both characters appear in number 5.  It is much more likely that someone is messing with their minds, probably the person tied to the chair.

This game aims to put the horror back into the franchise, which could be another reason for the similarities in design.  The story is set on a boat; this means lots of dark corridors and eerie confide spaces.  It’s strange that, from the outside, the ship appears to be some sort of cruise ship.  Even more strange is the fact that Jill and Chris are shown to have turned against each other and I’m not even going to start at the Chris look alike in the chair, I just hope they it’s not clones.

As I previously stated the game is only 20% done and therefore will not be released with the 3DS.  The release date has yet to be announced.  The game looks amazing; it really is hard to believe that it’s only in the early stages of development.
