Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
The launch of the 3DS means that lots of new games are on their way and there are two in particular that I can’t get off my mind. Capcom have announced two additions to the Resident Evil franchise; Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Today I’m going to talk about the latter.
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is NOT cannon to the timeline of the main series. It is fan service, pure and simple. The game gives you the opportunity to play as your favourite Resident Evil characters in a variety of areas. These areas have been taken from the Mercenaries mini-games that can be unlocked in number 4 and 5, but there is a possibility that new levels will be added.
Players will have many characters available to play as, not all of which have been revealed yet. So far we know that Jack Krauser, HUNK, Jill Valentine and Chris and Claire Redfield will all be selectable. Since the games only purpose is to please fans, and make money, I expect that many more of our favourite characters will soon be announced.
The trailer shows just how good the graphics are on the 3DS and the game play clip reveals some changes to the controls, both videos can be found at the end. The aiming system has been edited to accommodate the 3DS. The screen changes to first person shooter when you aim; this is most likely to prevent the character blocking enemies from view. Another change, that has been a long time coming, is that you can now shoot and move at the same time. You won’t be moving very fast but it’s still an improvement on the stop and shoot style that fans are struggled against in the past.
If, like me, you aren’t a fan of the time keeping aspect of the Mercenaries mini-game, then cross your fingers because it has been announced that other modes will be introduced but they may keep the timer. At least it has good Wi-Fi features. You can play alone side your friends, no matter how far away they actually are.
The game was designed to be and all out war against the undead, so just sit back and enjoy the 3D ass kicking. Unfortunately, the game will not be ready in time to be released alongside the 3DS next month, instead it hit selves this summer. On the other hand, this gives you time to wait and see if the 3DS price will drop.
