Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham City is a sequel to the 2009 game Batman: Arkham Asylum and is set a year after. The premise of the game is that part of Gotham has been bought to house prisoners, because the asylum and prison aren’t in the position to hold inmates. Inside this city prisoners have free rein, providing they don’t try to escape. Hugo Strange is put in charge of overseeing the city, he seems to be gaining in popularity, first the movie now this. All this would have been fine, except Two-Face decides he wants to execute Catwoman, to gain status with the inmates. Batman can’t let that happen so he enters the city.
The game will have both single and multiplayer modes, but it is still unclear what they will be. In other words, multiplayer could be co-op, or versus, it might even just be for mini games. Since Batman goes to save Catwoman because of the old flame between them, I thought a second player would play as her, at parts of the game. This would mean that multiplayer wouldn’t be available for the most of the game. However I think my theory was wrong; I read that Robin has been confirmed to appear in this game. This makes much more sense, plus it opens up the world of multiplayer from start to finish. Ever though he will be in the game, it’s not a guarantee that the multiplayer mode will be co-op, that’s just speculation at this stage.
The game uses a variety of weapons, smoke bombs, etc, to encourage players to be stealthy. Fans of the first game will be glad to know that all of the weapons from the first one will be in your inventory at the start of this game. A new feature called Detective mode has been added. This highlighted clues and useful objects, but has been severely weakened as it was found that players were leaving it on full time.
The game won’t be on shelves until late this year, so there’s plenty of time to go out and buy the original if you haven’t already. Comment and vote below to let me know what you think.
