Vampires have been around for a very long time, that’s an unintentional pun. Over the years they’ve become less evil and more… romantic. The modern vamp would prefer to suck face than blood. He lurks in the shadows but gets you home by curfew. A lot of things have changed about vampires, but one thing remains the same… their popularity.
Whether they’re dragging your blood or doing your taxes, people go crazy for vamps. How can they remain popular when they’ve effectively become the opposite of themselves, if that’s possible?
I think I know the answer. At first I thought about it and overcomplicated it, then I under complicated it, but now I believe I have the answer. What if, and I know this sounds crazy; vampires have always been about sex, or at least partly about sex.
Okay stop picturing nospheratu in a bikini it was just a theory. There are some major holes in the theory but I do have some evidence. Belief in real life vampires used to be a lot more wide spread than it is today, and one of the main reasons for that were grave robbers. Empty coffins tended to make people jump to conclusions. Also when bodies were dug up, for whatever reason (not grave robbing), the corpse would have blood leaking from his mouth and have an erection, don’t laugh it happens to all dead guys.
In films vampires were not always seen as sexy, but it didn’t take long to catch on. Then came, great, shows like Buffy and Angel and they basically kicked the romance between human and vampire into overdrive.
Do you like vampires, if so why?
